Charleston Christmas parade set Saturday

By CLAY MCFERRIN,

The Charleston Christmas parade, sponsored by the city, will get underway Saturday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m.

This year’s theme is “Christmas in Charleston.”

Grand marshal for the parade will be World War II veteran Richard Sallis.

Lineup for the parade will begin at 11 a.m. at the National Guard armory on South Cossar Avenue, said Mayor Sedrick Smith, who noted that marching bands from Charleston and Grenada high schools are confirmed for the event.

The official lighting of the community Christmas tree in the courtyard at City Hall will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Smith added.
