    Woman, 21, charged in shooting death of man, 76

    A 21-year-old woman is charged with capital murder in connection with the shooting death of a 76-year-old man.

    The victim, who suffered what Tallahatchie County Sheriff Jimmy Fly said appeared to be a single gunshot wound to the head, was identified as Silas Hoskin Jr., a local farm worker, of 9 True Vine Road, Tutwiler.

  • Rural garbage fee rising in Tallahatchie

    Like nearly everything else these days, come July 1, the cost of garbage collection and disposal for rural Tallahatchie County residents is rising.

    The Board of Supervisors has voted to increase the monthly fee from $13 to $17, a hike of about 30.7%.

    The Cascilla community is mourning the loss of one of their own, leaving the small Tallahatchie County village remembering her leading up to one of their biggest weekends of the year.

    Brenda Turner died from her injuries after being involved in a one-car accident in north Grenada County last week.

    The couple, who live in Oxford, were 2021 recipients of the foundation's prestigious McLean Award for Philanthropy.
