DPS Most Wanted list proves successful with multiple captures in under a week

On January 8, the Department of Public Safety in coordination with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation released a Most Wanted List with 10 individuals who were of high priority to be detained in Mississippi.

Since releasing the list, five of those individuals have already been apprehended.

Bryant A. Watson of Cascilla was sworn in Friday, Dec. 18, as the newest member of the East Tallahatchie School District Board of Trustees, representing Education District 10.

Watson was unopposed in November’s general election after six-term incumbent Donna Jo Taylor, also of Cascilla, decided not to seek re-election.

First allocation of COVID-19 vaccine arrives for local frontline medical workers

On Monday, Dec. 21, an allotment of 100 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine sent by the Mississippi State Department of Health arrived at Tallahatchie General Hospital in Charleston.

Within hours, many local frontline medical workers had been administered the vaccine, a process that was expected to take several days.

MDOC turns contraband tobacco into community, inmate help

JACKSON — For the first time in 10 years, Mississippi prison inmates who smoke will be able to do so legally on Feb. 1, 2021. Corrections Commissioner Burl Cain is turning the negative of smoking into something positive for the state’s 21 prisons and other facilities.

Tallahatchie County on Tuesday became one of 17 additional counties included in a state-imposed mask mandate that remains in effect at least until Jan. 15.

The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued a Winter Weather Advisory, in effect from midnight tonight until 6 p.m. Monday, for Tallahatchie, Yalobusha, Calhoun and Chickasaw counties in North Mississippi.
