HOLCOMB — James W. “Butch” Melton, Jr., 75, of Holcomb, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 1, at his home.
Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service with Rev. Shelly Scallions and Rev. Damon Plummer officiating. Interment followed in the Bethel Cemetery at Oxberry.
He was born Jan. 27, 1943 in Charleston to James W., Sr. and Christine Williams Melton.
He was a retired plant manager with Randall Textron. He was a father, a brother, a grandfather, a great grandfather, and a friend to many. If you were around long enough for Him to nickname you, you were considered family. He was the kindest hearted person you would ever meet. He would do without to make sure that everyone around him had everything they needed. It didn’t matter if you were blood kin or not he would take anyone in and raise them as his own. He will be truly missed.
Survivors include two daughters, Arlene Brooks (Eddie) of Pope and Terry Schaefer (Walter Jr.) of Holcomb; two sisters, Donna Jean Burkhalter of Cascilla and Carol Dean Hargett of Charleston; two brothers, George Melton of Grenada and Paul Edward Williams of Hernando; an aunt, Ruby Nell Williams of Cascilla; five grandchildren, Blake Rushing, Jacob Rushing, Laci Elliott, Casi Brooks and Kelsey Schaefer; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruby Melton; daughter, Cindy Rushing and two sisters, Linda Hardy and Patricia Ann Stafford.
