TOMBALL, Texas — Johnie Mae Shook Staten, age 91, formerly of Cascilla, passed away after a brief illness Saturday, March 30, surrounded by her loving family.
Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, April 5, at Pressgrove Cemetery in Cascilla. Womble Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
She was born Dec. 20, 1927 in Birmingham, Ala. to Albert Percy Shook and Johnie Brown Shook. She graduated from Northwest Junior College in 1946 and began her professional career as a teacher, then followed by working for the I.R.S. with her final working years being in the medical profession.
Mrs. Staten was a member of Central Baptist Church in Grenada.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Sanford Lee Staten and her brother, Percy James Shook of Gonzales, La.
She is survived by a daughter, Tonya (David) Schick of Gurnee, Ill.; a son, Tim (Patty) Staten of Tomball, Texas; sister-in-law, Mary F. Staten; brother-in-law, Knoff Staten ;and Linda Trujillio of Spring, Texas, her cousin and caregiver. She is also survived by 2 grandsons and 4 great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.
