Former CHS football standouts ink with senior colleges

Fred Hervey (seated at left) and Dequan Street (seated at right) sign letters of intent to play NCAA Division I football on the Dec. 18 early National Signing Day.

Joining the pair of former Charleston High School football standouts for the ceremony in the CHS gym are (standing from left) Leon Hervey, CHS Defensive Coordinator LaDon Taylor, CHS head coach Scott Martin, Lawanda Dogan, Barbara Henderson, Terrell Brown and Marchelle Street.

Fred Hervey, a 5-11, 215-pound linebacker, signed to play for the Arkansas State University Red Wolves of Jonesboro, Arkansas. Dequan Street, a 6-1, 175-pound defensive back, signed to play with the Bethune-Cookman University Wildcats of Dayton Beach, Florida.

Both Hervey and Street are two-year college starters — Hervey at East Mississippi Community College and Street at Coahoma Community College — and both received postseason Mississippi Association of Community & Junior Colleges honors for their play.
