The family of Ricky Lewis Jones announces that a second $500 scholarship in his honor will be given this year to a graduating senior at Charleston High School.
The first Ricky Lewis Jones Memorial Scholarship was awarded last year to Ira Jackson, who at CHS was a member of the band, the National Honor Society, National History Honor Society, Science Club and Beta Club. Jackson had plans of furthering his education at the University of Mississippi, where he would major in law. He envisions his academic journey will include a Ph.D.
Jones grew up on Murphy Road in Charleston. He loved his hometown and attended East Tallahatchie School District. He knew the value of a good education.
Jones believed the lessons he learned in Mississippi, more specifically in Charleston, had a tremendous impact on his life.
Jones unexpectedly passed away on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024. To keep some of the values Ricky held so deeply alive, his family created the scholarship at CHS.
2025 graduating seniors at CHS are encouraged to contact Mrs. Kogrecha Banks, counselor at the school, for more information about the Ricky Lewis Jones Memorial Scholarship.
