Clay McFerrin, editor and publisher of The Sun-Sentinel, is a native of Charleston and has had the privilege of working for his hometown newspaper since December 1982, when he was hired as a part-time reporter by then owner John O. Emmerich Jr.  A graduate of Charleston High School and Northwest Mississippi Junior College, Clay was named editor and general manager in October 1986.  Shortly after the sudden death of Mr. Emmerich in 1995, Clay was named editor and publisher by new owner Wyatt Emmerich, son of John Emmerich. Clay is a past member of the Mississippi Press Association Board of Directors, Mississippi Press Services Board of Directors and Mississippi Press Association Education Foundation Board of Directors. He is married to Krista McFerrin and they have two children, Brandon and Kelsey; a son-in-law, Ryan; a granddaughter, Harper; and a grandson, Beckett.

Krista McFerrin, office manager of The Sun-Sentinel, is a native of Coffeeville, Miss., and has lived in Tallahatchie County since her August 1987 marriage to Clay McFerrin. In February 1988, then Sun-Sentinel owner John O. Emmerich Jr. hired her to fill a vacancy at the newspaper and to assist in getting out the weekly publication.  As an employee here ever since, Krista, an award-winning graphic design artist, also oversees advertising sales, manages the newspaper’s circulation efforts and fulfills many other responsibilities. She is an active lifetime member and presently serves on the board of Charleston Arts and Revitalization Effort, is a former member of the Strider Academy Board of Directors, and a former longtime board member and treasurer for the East Tallahatchie Unit of the American Cancer Society. She and Clay have two children, Brandon and Kelsey; a son-in-law, Ryan; a granddaughter, Harper; and a grandson, Beckett.
