The East Tallahatchie School District Board of Trustees last month voted 3-2 not to renew the contract of Superintendent Dr. Ben Kennedy for 2018-19.
According to minutes of their Jan. 11 meeting, the board had conducted an evaluation of Kennedy.
After some discussion, board member Lincoln Smith made a motion to not renew Kennedy’s contract.
Newly-seated board member Tameka McIntyre seconded the motion, which drew opposition from veteran board members Raymond Radcliff and Donna Taylor.
Board chairman Darrell Neal cast the decisive vote.
Kennedy’s detractors stated that the district “needed more leadership.”
Kennedy, 51, a 27-year veteran of the Charleston school system, has served as superintendent of the district since July 1, 2015.
