An 8-year-old from Marks sustained fatal injuries in a Monday afternoon crash on Highway 6 in Quitman County, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
The deceased, whose name was not released because of their status as a minor, was a passenger in a 2006 Ford Escape driven by 64-year-old Jimmie Willingham of Tutwiler, noted MHP Public Affairs Officer Sgt. Marvin Baird.
The crash occurred at approximately 2:32 p.m. on June 9 when a 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 41-year-old Shonari O. McCray of Marks, traveling south on Tutor Road, collided with the Ford Escape, which was traveling east on Highway 6.
Both McCray and Willingham sustained moderate injuries in the crash and were transported to a local hospital.
The 8-year-old was pronounced dead on the scene.
MHP is still investigating the crash, Baird said.
