OAKLAND — Jean Sivley Gillett, 91, of Oakland, passed away Saturday, Sept. 16, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi in Oxford.
Family and friends gathered for visitation from 1 – 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada. Immediately following the visitation, a graveside service was held at the Oakland Cemetery with Rev. Courtney Selby officiating.
She was born January 10, 1932 to Abb Miles and Annie Lovelace Sivley. Jean was a devoted homemaker and a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church near Oakland. She loved to travel and spend time with her friends and family. Jean possessed a sweet spirit and her kind, gentle ways will long be remembered as her trademark qualities.
Survivors include her nephew, Ray Haynes (Marilyn) of Oakland; two great-nieces, Christy Haynes and Kathy Gahr; great-nephew, Kevin Haynes and her special life-long friend, Margaret Jean Ross.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William David Gillett, Sr.; son, William David “Bill” Gillett, Jr.; and a sister, Floy Sivley Haynes.
Pallbearers were Billy Ray Adams, David Odom, Mike Robinson, Rich Ross, Richard Ross and Tommy Ross.
