Absentee voting for the Nov. 7 general election in Tallahatchie County is now underway, according to Circuit Clerk Daphane Neal.
Official paper ballots had not arrived as of Tuesday afternoon, but Neal said they are expected “any day now.”
Any voter who shows up to vote by absentee ballot before the ordered ballots are received will be accommodated by circuit clerk staff “printing out a ballot from the computer,” Neal explained Tuesday.
The local general election lineup is razor thin this year, featuring only a race for school board in Education District 7. Only Charleston-area registered voters living within that district may vote.
Danny Adams, 60, a six-term incumbent, will square off against Tameka McIntyre, 32, for the District 7 seat on the East Tallahatchie School District Board of Trustees.
Because Marvin George, the 51-year-old incumbent in Education District 2, is unopposed, no election is required in that district, Neal said.
