Mississippi's annual back-to-school sales tax holiday got underway this morning and ends Sunday night.
During this period, Mississippi sales tax won’t be collected on eligible clothing, footwear and school supplies when the sales price of a single item is less than $100.
The Mississippi Department of Revenue offers a four-page guide with complete details, including a list of eligible (non-taxable) and ineligible (taxable) items.

"Mississippi’s back-to-school sales tax holiday can help families and small businesses,” said National Federation of Independent Business State Director Leah Long. “It gives parents a chance to save on clothes, shoes, and school supplies, and it helps local merchants during one of their busiest times of the year.”
Long said the tax holiday also highlights the important role small businesses play in communities across the state.
“When families shop at locally owned businesses, they’re supporting local jobs, strengthening their communities, and helping Main Street businesses succeed,” she said.
