Marvin Watson, 62, of 524 Hopson St., Tutwiler, qualified Friday to seek the Education District 1 seat on the West Tallahatchie School District Board of Trustees.
Incumbent Lucinda Berryhill, 61, also of Tutwiler, is seeking re-election to the post. As of Tuesday, Watson was her only challenger.
The deadline to qualify for school board seats is Friday, Sept. 9, at 5 p.m.
Lincoln “Buddy” Smith, 35, of Charleston, who is the incumbent in Education District 6, a slot on the East Tallahatchie School District Board of Trustees, was unopposed for re-election as of Tuesday.
Prospective candidates must gather 50 signatures on a petition form and sign qualifying papers. There is no fee.
The election is Nov. 8.
