They built a new one!
Orange signs were all down the road. Trucks, heavy equipment and lots of men have been working to take out an old bridge and build a new one in its place.
The old concrete one seemed just fine to me. Lots of memories about old Highway 51 of my parents fishing off the bridges.
Some people lost land for the project to be built. Some have a new sharper incline down to the road from their houses. Frontages were changed.
It took a long time to complete. First, they built the new bridge, leveling and sloping, building up and adding layers of different material, and making the access road.
I left out a lot they did that I don’t really know about, but you get the picture. It was quite a process before they added the lines and opened the new bridge up for traffic.
Next, they started tearing out the old bridge. That was a lot of work! Noise rose and the concrete came out, moving soil around and shaping what would be the new section of road, sinking supports, adding supports across the creek, pouring concrete, leveling, and then asphalt, shiny and new, covered where the old had been.
Guess what? Now they are tearing out the first new bridge that turns out to be temporary while they built the real new bridge on the site of the old one! Lots of work!
What do you have in your life that you need to replace? What needs to be torn out and rebuilt into a better, stronger, longer lasting you?
Some list a 3-3-3 guide to making a permanent change: 3 days to begin to make a new habit or change; 3 weeks to make it a normal routine; 3 months to let it become a permanent change.
Guess what? Jesus came and changed things around for the religious people of that day! He even explained that the temple would be “torn down” and rebuilt in three days. They thought he meant the actual structure of the temple they worshipped in.
Jesus meant his own body, which would be beaten, tortured, crucified and killed. Destroying his physical body. Then He was put in the tomb, and look out! He returned to life! In His resurrected body! He fulfilled the prophecies and the message of the Old Testament. Jesus would pay the penalty for all our sins!
He is the bridge we must accept to come to God! To forgiveness! To eternal life!
Let Him get rid of the old sinful self, demolish the power of sin and clear it all away.
Of my gracious, what a powerful, miraculous bridge He is! He did not change the law but fulfilled it!
Jesus is not a temporary access! Come on across!
