OAKLAND — Bonnie Alexander Showers, age 72, retired bookkeeper, passed away Friday, Aug. 26, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
Funeral services were held 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, at Spring Hill Baptist Church with Bro. Courtney Selvy conducting. Interment followed at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Womble Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Bonnie was born in Charleston on December 7, 1949, to JW and Mamie Alexander. Bonnie moved to Greenville where she grew up and graduated from Greenville High School. In 1967 she married Millard Filmore Sanders and had two sons. She was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church in Oakland.
Throughout the years, Bonnie loved cooking big family meals and working in her yard, perfecting growing her flower beds. Bonnie is known for her talent at painting and also began to craft later in life. She loved spending time with her church family and congregation. She never met a stranger and had big adventures with her famous cat, Ozzie.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, JW and Mamie Alexander; a sister, Judy Ann Alexander; and her husband, Millard Filmore Sanders.
She is survived by a sister, Dorothy (William) Moore, of Cary; two sons, Steve (April) Sanders and Randy (Ciji) Sanders, both of Oakland; four grandsons, Bradley (Kristina) Sanders of Monette, Arkansas, and Colson Sanders, Blaine Sanders and Zach Sanders, all of Oakland; and two great-grandchildren, Emerson and Ella Rose. She also leaves behind many loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family requests memorials be made in Bonnie’s honor to Spring Hill Baptist Church, 1294 Spring Hill Rd., Oakland, MS 38948.
Pallbearers were Paul Covey, Dalton Fillyaw, Donald Fillyaw, Greg Fillyaw, Tommy Fillyaw and Jason Sanders.
