Food giveaways set in two towns
Distribution of free family food boxes will be conducted on Thursday, Sept. 24, in Charleston and Sumner.
The first giveaway will be from 9-11 a.m. on the grounds of the National Guard armory, 409 S. Cossar Ave., in Charleston.
The second giveaway will occur from noon until 2 p.m. at the Emmett Till Multi-Purpose Complex, 2330 Highway 49 East, Sumner.
Each box includes meat, dairy, produce and vegetables. There is a limit of one box per family, while supplies last.
Sponsored by the Mississippi Crisis Foundation, the events also are supported by Bill Blackwelder, Mid-South Ag Equipment, Reynolds Equipment, Charleston Mayor Sedrick Smith, Sumner Mayor Jackson Webb, Glendora Mayor Johnny B. Thomas, Tutwiler Mayor Nichole Harris-Rosebud, Webb Mayor Tracy Mims and Tallahatchie County Sheriff Jimmy Fly.
Friday September 25
Child car seats to be given, adjusted
A limited number of free child safety seats will be distributed to the general public on Friday, Sept. 25, at the former National Guard armory, 409 S. Cossar Ave., in Charleston.
The “seat check Friday” event will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., but the free car seats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis only while supplies last.
During this event, participants will be taught about the proper installation of a child car seat or booster seat.
Only one parent/caregiver should attend with a child to be fitted for a car seat. A face mask must be worn by the parent/caregiver, and child when age appropriate.
This event is sponsored by the Mississippi State Department of Health, Charleston Mayor Sedrick Smith, Safe Kids Worldwide and the Diaper Bank of the Delta.
Saturday September 26
Food, shoes, supplies to be given
The Table of Life Ministry will conduct a drive-thru distribution of perishable food, household supplies and children’s shoes of various sizes on Saturday, Sept. 26, beginning at 10 a.m. and continuing while supplies last.
The distribution will be held on the church parking lot at 201 Clay St. in Charleston.
Boxes will be limited to two families per vehicle, and no boxes or supplies can be picked up for someone else.
All necessary safety measures and precautions will be in place. There will be no need for anyone to exit their vehicle, but drivers are asked to open their hatch or trunk.
“This is a giveaway to the general public and all are welcome to drive through,” said pastor Ricky Garvin, who said he may be contacted at 647-7946 if anyone has any questions about the event.

Robert Neal Food Pantry open
The Robert Neal Food Pantry at Calvary Chapel of Parchman will distribute food on Saturday, Oct. 17, and each third Saturday thereafter, from 9-11 a.m. in the parking lot. COVID-19 protective measures are in place.
Faith Food Pantry to distribute
Faith Food Pantry at Faith Baptist Church near Charleston will distribute food on Saturday, Oct. 17, and each third Saturday thereafter, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. COVID-19 protective measures are in place.

Tutwiler center offers food to youth
The Tutwiler Community Education Center is sponsoring a youth meal program for children 18 and under at their offices located at 304 Hancock St. in Tutwiler.
Meals are available for pickup Monday through Thursday from 3 until 3:45 p.m. Food for the weekend will be given away from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. every Friday.

Eyewitness accounts of littering and road sign vandalism/theft in Tallahatchie County may be reported to 647-7711 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., seven days per week. If there is no answer, leave a message as to the exact location of the dump site or sign vandalism or theft, the date and time called and your name and phone number. Someone will contact you.
