The time has come. We are so excited about the musical lineup for the Gateway to the Delta Festival on Saturday, Oct. 18, and are ready to begin to release the names of these wonderful musicians who will kick off the entertainment at noon and keep you moving until 11 that night.
We are very pleased to have the New Town Missionary Baptist Church Choir and their accompaniment open our festival again this year. If you attended Gateway 2024, you cannot forget this dynamic group of local talents who sang God’s praises.
Their powerful solo performers and talented accompaniment musicians shared their biblical lyrics and messages of hope. It is no surprise that numerous members of the community asked CARE to welcome them back for another festival. The choir will begin at noon after the conclusion of the Little Miss, Tiny Miss and Little Mr. Gateway Pageant.
Taking the stage next will be Shameless All-Star Country Band. Shameless is a group of musicians from several of the top bands from North Mississippi, playing the classic country hits of the 80s and 90s. Their high-energy country sound is packed with powerhouse performances, Southern pride and shamelessly good music.
Shameless All-Star Country Band has performed all over the state and recently played for the Tallahatchie River Festival.
And, it is also time to announce those very special community members who have agreed to pucker up and smooch a pig, all in good fun for CARE.
After allowing the gentlemen to kick off our Smoochin’ Scissors contest last year, we have selected three very special local ladies to carry on the tradition this year. Former CARE director Glenna Callender, CARE community volunteer Angie Davis and owner of the Flower Basket and Gifts Alisha Pittman are this year’s candidates for this prestigious honor.
To vote for the one lady who you would most like to see kissing the pig, donate $1 per vote in their name at The Sun-Sentinel and CARE. Voting will continue until 3:30 on the afternoon of the Gateway Festival. Votes may also be cast via venmo@CAREarts.
Speaking of Venmo, you might notice an ad with our beautiful T-shirt and poster in this edition. We are having a special online presale on Monday, Sept. 15, from 5-7 p.m. You can easily venmo@CAREarts to purchase your shirt or poster. On Oct. 1, you can purchase in person at the CARE building from 10 a.m. until noon.
There are so many more exciting things happening as we lead up to Gateway 2025! Stay up to date on the CARE and Gateway Facebook pages and in The Sun-Sentinel for all the upcoming announcements and events.
We can’t wait to see you at Gateway 2025.
