Charleston High School’s most sought-after athlete in years recently signed a National Letter of Intent to attend The University of Mississippi on a full football scholarship.
DeAntre Prince, a 6-1, 170-pound cornerback, made his selection of the Ole Miss Rebels official on Early National Signing Day, Dec. 19.
At CHS, Prince excelled in all phases of the game. During his senior season last fall, he racked up 122 passing yards, 198 rushing yards, 275 receiving yards and 246 punt and kickoff return yards. He scored 10 touchdowns on offense and recorded 41 tackles on defense.
The speedster, who ran a 4.5 forty at a camp in 2017 and earned praise for his footwork and agility, drew the attention of college scouts from more than a dozen programs.
In addition to Ole Miss, Prince received offers from NCAA Division I schools Auburn, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, Mississippi State, Notre Dame and Texas A&M, as well as lower-tier programs like Jackson State, Louisiana-Monroe and Texas-San Antonio, according to reports by 247Sports.com, which gave him a three-star rating and ranked him No. 441 among the hottest recruiting prospects in the nation — including No. 18 overall in Mississippi.
Although Prince had many tempting offers, Ole Miss was the winner largely because of its proximity.
“My mom wants to have an opportunity to come see me play every Saturday and ... it’s only 45 minutes from my house to their campus,” Prince told 247Sports.com.
He added, “It just feels homey on their campus, too. I know a lot of people over there already. I just feel comfortable over there.”
Prince, whose position is listed as “athlete” among 2019 football commitments on the Ole Miss athletics website, https://olemisssports.com, becomes the first CHS Division I signee since Johnny Brown in 2007.
Brown played for Ole Miss until 2010, earning many accolades at strong safety. In addition, he was voted as one of the team’s captains.
