The city of Charleston will be hosting two holiday events on Saturday, Dec. 10.
First, the Charleston Christmas parade will get underway at 2 p.m. that day.
The procession will follow the usual route from the National Guard armory onto Main Street and westward around the courthouse before breaking up just past Tallahatchie General Hospital.
The theme of this year’s parade is “Christmas Around the World.”
“I would like to cordially invite you and your organization to participate in the parade,” said Charleston Mayor Sedrick Smith, who noted that organizations are encouraged to create a float, enter as a walking group or band, in vehicles or as an equestrian group.

City officials also will conduct their second annual “Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration” later on Dec. 10, Smith noted.
A public ceremony is scheduled for 5 p.m. in the City Hall courtyard.
Smith said he and the Charleston Board of Commissioners extend a special invitation to anyone wishing to attend the lighting of the city’s official Christmas tree.
“We have a lot of good things to be thankful for here in the city this year, and we want everyone to come out and spend the day celebrating Christmas in Charleston,” said the mayor.
