Charleston Mayor Sedrick Smith Sr. and Charleston police officer Akvia Farmer received a trophy and plaque following their participation in the Mississippi Municipal Service Company’s 14th annual 5K Fun Run/Walk.
The July 23 "Run the Bridge" event was held in conjunction with the Mississippi Municipal League’s 94th annual conference in Biloxi in late July.
The 5K race takes place on the Ocean Springs Bridge, aka Biloxi Bay Bridge. Beginning on the Ocean Springs side, participants walk or run across the bridge and then return to the starting point.
Smith won the race with a time of 42.4.
He and Farmer were honored for comprising the “largest group” competing in the contest.
