Ma’Laijah Brewer, a native of Charleston, graduated from Army basic training on Friday, Sept. 18, at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma.
She is a member of the U.S. Army Reserve.
Brewer, the daughter of Quontina Hill and the granddaughter of Dorothy Brewer, is a 2026 graduate of Greenville High School.
After basic training, she will advance to her next military post for continued specific military job training.
Brewer plans to attend Jackson State University and major in Human Resources.
The U.S. Army Reserve is a federal part-time military force that supports the active-duty U.S. Army during wars, national emergencies or for operational needs.
Reservists keep their civilian jobs or continue going to school while maintaining military readiness and typically complete training one weekend a month and two weeks each year.
