The Charleston Police Department on Monday was investigating an early-evening shooting near the corner of West Main and South Clay streets that left two men with gunshot wounds.
Both males, whose names were not released, were transported to the emergency room at Tallahatchie General Hospital, according to Charleston Police Chief Donnie Tenner Sr. One man was subsequently airlifted to Memphis, the chief added.
The nature of their injuries was not immediately known.
The shooting occurred about 5:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Charleston Market & Deli, a convenience store located at 601 W. Main St., Tenner noted.
“Right now, we’ve got a person of interest,” the chief said at about 7:10 p.m.
