The physical education program at Charleston High School received a $1,000 check from Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi on Friday, April 21, as the Class 3A winner of the “Text to Win” contest.
The contest was held during the 2016 Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Gridiron Classic football championship game at Davis Wade Stadium at Mississippi State University.
The “Text to Win” contest gives fans another way to support their team by texting in during the days leading up to each championship game. The team with the most text entries at the end of each game would receive $1,000 to be earmarked for its physical education program.
While Charleston bested Kemper County in the texting match, Kemper County took home the Class 3A football title last December.
“I think this is Charleston’s fourth time to win the Text to Win contest, so you can see that this has become something where there has been a lot of involvement in the school and in the community,” said Charleston head football coach Scott Martin. “For our school, anything extra makes a difference — whether it’s $10 or $1,000. This allows us to do things that we might have had a hard time doing otherwise.”
The texting contest is just one more way that Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi helps students and student athletes in the state.

Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi is the title sponsor for the Mississippi High School Activities Association’s annual Football Championships.
