“A soul is often fed by a simple needle and thread.” Artists will often tell you that the process of creating their next work of art is filled with all types of emotions — a calming feeling, anxiety, a sense of pride, anger at their lack of perfection, fear of time constraints and so many more. However, we often take for granted that the simple process of sewing or quilting is different, but it really is not.
It often starts with a pile of fabric, or some thread and a vision of the beauty of a finished piece that the seamstress is ready to showcase for the world. And, that is what our next exhibit at CARE, entitled “Stitched with Love,” will do for the community.
Members of our community have come together to show the fruits of their labor and the labors of their loved ones passed down through the years. Our exhibit will feature beautiful quilts, cross-stitch pieces, crochet items and so much more. Many of these works of art are treasures that were sewn by members of the community who have passed away and left these heirlooms to their loved ones. For many, they are reminders of a time that was much simpler than the hectic lifestyle of today’s world.
Our “Stitched with Love” reception to recognize the members of the community who have created these unique items will be on Sunday, Feb. 18, from 2 to 4 in the CARE Gallery. The exhibit is free and open to the public. These beautiful works of art will remain on display for the week following for members of the community to view.
If you have stitched pieces that you would like to display, please contact CARE at 662-647-0942. We hope to see you on Feb. 18, and throughout 2024, at CARE!
