Do you worry about your home when you leave it?
You have planned a trip you really want to go on. Maybe a vacation, or a trip to see relatives or old friends.
You carefully packed your bags, taking everything you will need. The house is clean, garbage taken out, dishwasher unloaded and things put away. You lock the windows, make sure everything is turned off, check the temperature on the thermostat and walk out, locking the door behind you.
Who will check on things for you? Will someone come feed the dog or cat and let them in and out? If you have chickens, ducks, geese, cows and a farm that needs taking care of, who can you depend on to care of them and it like you would?
The caretaker will have access to everything, so you have to be able to trust them. What will you find when you return?
I can’t imagine having an enemy invading my country and having to evacuate, leaving my home to whatever may come.
If you feel confident in your caretaker and don’t worry while you are away but return to disaster, what would you do?
The Bible records a parable about the return of Christ in Mark 13. We know Jesus Christ will return, but only God knows the time.
“Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come. It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch. Therefore, keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back — whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to everyone: ‘Watch!’” — Mark 13: 33-37.
Jesus gave us commands to follow when he ascended: “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” — Matthew 28: 19-20
When Jesus returns, I pray He finds us faithful and hard at work!
