It’s that time again!
Graduation!
Graduation from pre-K for Addie, graduation from eighth-grade middle school to high school for Gracie.
Are you standing at the crossroads watching your child, grandchild, niece, nephew or family friend end one educational journey and begin another?
One mama told me, “High school. How did that happen so soon? I’m not ready for her to be in high school yet.”
I heard from another mom: “Time flew by. Just yesterday she was my little girl, and now she is growing up so fast and graduating! Time, slow down!”
Milestones: Moving through the educational system, moving away from home, and moving into careers and the life of an adult.
Mamas keep up with milestones, store mental pictures of their babies’ growth, keep souvenirs of school plays they were in, and cherish the memories of these precious growing-up years. Then suddenly, they are gone and off on their own.
The empty nest, as described, is a shock!
How can you pray for these mothers who are facing all the changes that come with a maturing family?
Pray for them to have wisdom to continue to teach and advise their children about the important things in life and to keep the most important.
What about Mathew 6:33: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
Pray for them to know right from wrong and be alert to the snares to trap them in sin.
I Corinthians 15:33 warns: “Do not be deceived: Bad company ruins good morals.”
Pray for them to use their talents and develop their knowledge to the best of their ability. 2 Timothy 2:15 says, “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”
Pray for them to be safe physically, mentally, spiritually and financially. 2 Thessalonians 3:3: “But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.”
Pray for their salvation and continual growth in their relationship with Jesus Christ their Lord and Savior. John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
And warn them that there may be struggles in achieving their goals, but to persevere and not give up. I remember when Andrew was little and came home with his first “real” report card from first grade. When I picked him up from school, he got in the car with a troubled look on his face and the trace of tears on his cheeks.
“What’s wrong, honey?” I asked.
“I did so bad,” he said with a bowed head.
“What do you mean?” I asked, noticing he held his report card tightly in his hands.
“I made 43!” he confessed with a sob.
“Can I see?” I said, as I took his card from him. “O, Andrew! You didn’t make a bad grade! You have all A’s! The 43 is your weight!”
Be kind; pray for the students and help them when they think they have failed.
