Claims that just about everything is newer, better and the best yet constantly assail us!
It seems like many people are looking for new diets: to lose weight faster, to lose weight in specific places on their bodies, and to lose weight effortlessly. As you see magazines with blazing headlines in hot colors, you can read about the latest diet fad, discovery and miracle.
When you read some of these claims, they seem outright silly — and others are just old diets reworded and repackaged.
Then there are new cars with features added to make the prices soar! The best ever! The safest ever! The best mileage ever! Cars that make you attractive and desirable when you get in them and drive up exotic roads.
Fishing equipment that shows you where those scaly rascals are hiding and the fishing lure to beat all lures guaranteeing you the best and biggest catch ever!
Makeup, skincare and hair products that make exaggerated claims to work miracles that are going to make you look young, beautiful, glowing and desirable.
If you believe what you read, new products come on the market every day to take away wrinkles, make you glow and remove skin imperfections. If you just use their new, improved products, you will get your youth back!
Hair products can curl, straighten, wave, color, tint, gloss, soften, perfume, thicken, grow back and control your hair! After all, it is new and improved!
Funny how often things are new and improved. Even laundry detergent. What happened to what I liked, the old stuff, the original?
Did you know that the Bible talks about a new thing coming? But not like our society’s advertising mania for new and improved.
The new, miraculous coming was true!
In Isaiah 40:3, you can find prophecy that something new was coming: “A voice of one calling, ‘In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.”
Yes, this did come true. In Mark 1:3 we see a repeat of Isaiah’s prophecy. Then John the Baptist is revealed as the forerunner preparing a way for Jesus to come: “And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.” John said someone new, special and better was coming! Jesus, the Messiah, was on the way! The Kingdom of Heaven was coming! John preached to prepare a straight path for Him as he preached repentance and baptism.
In Jesus, God did a new thing! Jesus, God and the Holy Spirit, the Trinity, always existed together. However, God coming in the flesh, as a man, to teach us about God, salvation, repentance, the Kingdom of God, how to live and how to be saved eternally was new and singular!
Isaiah 43:19: “Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.”
Jesus was the “new thing!” And still is!
