Art is the way that we often express what we cannot say in words. And, to say that quilting has become a lost art is an understatement.
We are thrilled to have the beautiful work of the Tutwiler Quilters on display in our gallery beginning Monday, Feb. 13.
The Tutwiler Quilters have been in operation since 1989. The coordinator for quilting is Mary Mackey, who was under the leadership of the sisters before she became the coordinator in the program. The group currently consists of about eight quilters that can make quilts, potholders, coasters, table runners, baby quilts and more.
Each quilter has their own vision and design for their pieces. They create their own pattern and place it together in order to tell their story. This program is about the “Quilters” because they make the vision come to life.
The Tutwiler Quilters are a unique group of women that enjoy the craft and love sharing it with their community. Members of the group will join us on Friday, Feb. 17, for a luncheon in their honor and to share their love of this art form with the community.
Feb. 17 is also our annual lunch to thank our local first responders. We will partner with the Ed & Becky Meek Foundation this year to serve these “unsung heroes” of our town. It goes without saying that a simple lunch and thank you goes a long way to support those who take care of us on a daily basis.
Whew! Another busy week in our CARE gallery is on tap. See you this week at CARE.
