Well, it is time to saddle up your horses! This is the race, the Kentucky Derby, the Run for the Roses. You want to see the greatest, and the greatest of all horse races is the Kentucky Derby. AND, we want you to see this greatest of all horse races at CARE with us on May 6!
Our Kentucky Derby Watch Party will be held at CARE on Saturday, May 6, from 4 to 6 p.m.
A fun afternoon filled with numerous Derby activities awaits you. Trophies for the Most Original Hat and Most Traditional Hat will be awarded. Pick your favorite horse to bet on during the race, while you sip on cool peach tea. Mint juleps will also be available to ensure that attendees experience the festive atmosphere of Churchill Downs.
Oh, and the food! We are very excited that our Derby Watch Party will be catered by Joey Brunson. He has planned a wonderful menu filled with amazing hors d’oeuvres to complement your drink of choice for the afternoon. He guarantees that no one will leave hungry.
If betting on horses is not your thing, never fear, because we have other fun items to keep you busy until we watch the race. Our silent auction will include numerous art pieces that have been donated by local artists. Pottery, paintings, jewelry, wood crafts and other items will be included in this auction.
You can also gather around our piano to sing a chorus or two of “My Old Kentucky Home.”
On a more serious note, our Kentucky Derby Watch Party is a fundraiser to help us to repair the third floor of the CARE building. A continued roof leak, coupled with the building sitting idle for almost two years due to COVID, has resulted in numerous repairs needed to allow us to continue to provide programs in that area of our building. Damaged ceiling tiles, gaping holes in plaster on the walls and additional water damage throughout the rooms create a challenging environment for our instructors.
We have mailed several hundred invitations to members of our community and surrounding areas. However, we know that due to challenges with address changes and the volume that the Postal Service handles each day, some of them will not arrive on time, or at all.

We will not sell tickets at the door but encourage you to call or stop by CARE to purchase your tickets in advance if you would like to attend. Tickets are $35 per person, or $60 per couple.
