SUMNER — What do a pumpkin, high heel shoe and dried sunflowers have in common? The answer awaits at the Plantation Garden Club Flower Show on Saturday, Oct. 23.
The Emmett Till Interpretive Center, located at 120 Court Street on the square in Sumner, opens it doors to welcome guests for the show from 1-4 p.m.
“Fall into Sumner” is the theme of this year’s show, as we gather to celebrate all of the beauty around us and, especially, our bountiful harvest.
You can expect to find well-groomed specimens of an array of locally grown plants, both indoor and out, as you “Fall into Gardening” with horticulture sections Annual Event, Harvest Hues, Fall Foliage, Autumn Jewels, Rustling Leaves and Beautiful Bounty.
The design and artistic skills of this group of delta ladies shows in the warmth of their homes and gets to really shine in the category, “Fall into Flowers” as they compete in designing a “bountiful harvest table for two.”
Another design class is “Fireside Chat,” an informal tray for one person.
The Exhibition Table theme will be “Trick or Treat.”
But remember those shoes, pumpkins and sunflowers. That’s when our creative ladies pull out all stops to design Botanical Arts “Fall into Fashion.” You will see “Designer Handbags, “Show Stopping Hats” and “Fetching Footwear” all designed or decorated with plant material.
Come out and see your neighbors. It’s free to the public and a good, fun family activity.
