“I need a crown!”
Addie is 3 and has discovered the show “Frozen” full of princesses and a queen. She was captivated.
As her mama was getting her ready for pre-K, Addie told her she needed to wear her crown to school that day.
“Are you a princess?” Jayme asked.
“No, I a QUEEN!” Addie smiled and told her mama.
Pink patterned socks, glittery tennis shoes, a tutu ballerina dress and her crown — she was ready to “scoot” to school on her red scooter with her mama walking with her.
Her class had been studying occupations, and she had settled on being royalty!

How did you choose your occupation, your career or your calling?
I don’t remember taking any surveys, questionnaires or career skill tests in high school — or college, for that matter.
I don’t remember teachers discussing our future plans with us other than expecting us to do well, graduate and go to college or a junior college.
I don’t remember my parents talking with me about what I would do or be when I grew up and went to work. It was expected I would graduate, go to college and work — but counseling on what to study, what to major in and what to plan on being as an adult didn’t happen.
As a teacher, we talked about careers with our students and they completed lots of informational questionnaires to assess their skill and interest sets. Students did research on careers and jobs — completing presentations about what the jobs required educationally or in training, salaries and what the people in those occupations did.
We talked with our sons about what they would like to do as their life work, how they would need to prepare and what opportunities were out there. I hope our grandchildren will look at what is possible for them and strive to be the best they can be and use their gifts and talents to make the world a better place.
What conversations do you have or have you had with your children and grandchildren, nieces or nephews? Have you given them Godly guidance and encouragement?
We know the Bible tells us that what work we do we should do well: “Colossians 3:23-24 says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord ...”
As Christians, we read that we are God’s children. Galatians 4:6-7: “And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, ‘Abba, Father.’ Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir.”
God loves us, sent His Son to die for our sins in our place and provided us forgiveness and salvation as well as a living relationship with Him! When we repent of our sins and accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we become the children of God! Amazing! God’s heirs!
And that beats being an earthly princess or queen any day.
