She chose where to go.
Mama chose what assisted living facility she wanted to go to when the time came, and then she let me know her decision. When I visited the facility, I agreed it was very nice, clean, professional and had many services and benefits for her.
She moved in with her own furniture and things to help her feel at home and all went well as her illness (microvascular brain disease: small strokes that continued to decrease her brain function) progressed and her needs increased.
The assisted living home always decorated for holidays and tried to keep the residents anchored in time as well as they could.
So, at Easter time the facility went all out!
But, when mama left her room to walk around and see what had been put up and out as decorations, she had something to say!
“What are all these child- like eggs, colored plastic grass and bunnies doing all over everything? Who put this stuff out?”
The staff explained it was Easter.
“Well, it’s about Jesus! Not eggs and bunnies! After all, that Man died for us!”
Mama may have been losing mental capacities, but she knew what was most important. She held on to her ability to pray, sing and discern spiritual things for a long time!
She talked to the staff, she continued to push her point that Easter was about Jesus.
After a day or two, she was touring her facility when she came up short.
The decorations had changed. Gone were the childlike Easter eggs and bunny decorations.
Displayed were Christian decorations of the cross and reminders of Christ’s death on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins so that we could be saved through His sacrifice, God’s grace and our faith.
She was so happy and excited.
One little lady had made a difference for all the residents, staff and visitors. One little lady unable to live on her own had stood up for her beliefs and influenced what was going on around her.
She served her Savior with what she had where she was in the best way she could.
What about you?
Romans 10:9 tells us: “that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Matthew 10:32 adds: “Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven.”
Consider your life, your realm of influence, your ability to witness and proclaim Christ through words, deeds or even home and yard decorations.

In Mark 16:15, we read: “He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every nation.’”
Be bold!
Take every opportunity to hold Christ up as the Savior of the world!
