Did you make some for New Year’s?
No, I don’t mean the traditional black-eyed peas, cornbread, cabbage or turnip greens. Although, I do admit I like that menu!
I’m thinking about resolutions or goals. Tired of thinking about them? Feel defeated because change is so hard or goals take so much work and effort?
Be encouraged.
The Bible tells us how we are changed, although it can still take some work and discipline as we grow spiritually.
Do you get tired of yourself? Funny question, huh? But there have been times I have gotten tired of doing the same things and expecting something different to happen. Sound familiar?
We need a fresh vision!
2 Corinthians 5:17 says: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here!”
To be new! In Christ we can be made new. He does it.
God is always at work around us.
Isaiah 43:19 tells us that: “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
Ask God to show you how He is working. Be encouraged!
Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us that God tells us: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” How can we doubt God when He tells us we have a hope and a future? We just need to line up our goals and changes we want to make with His will.
Joshua 1:9 says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” We are not alone in our battles; if God is with us and we are abiding in Him, we can be strong and courageous.
Can we be changed? Romans 12:2 says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is — His good, pleasing and perfect will.”
So repent of your sin that pulls you down and away from Him. Pray that God will transform you and renew your mind so you can abide in Him. Read your Bible so you can grow and learn what God wants you to know. Fellowship with Christians who can encourage you as you work to follow God’s will. Praise Him! Pray to Him with your whole heart. Do things to keep Him in your mind and soul as you go through your day. Don’t give up, do forgive yourself, don’t hold on to regret or shame, but ask forgiveness — keep on trying!
You are loved (John 3:16).
