Those were some very exciting days!
Elementary school and Valentine’s Day.
Did you get to decorate something, a shoebox maybe, with all kinds of valentines, red and white and hearts? Did your mama buy you a set of valentine cards, including one for the teacher, that you could address to your classmates?
I remember trying to get everyone’s name right and having a hard time deciding which one to send to who! My favorite friends needed something special.
A contest was held for the homemade Valentine’s Mailboxes. I didn’t win anything. Not Most Beautiful. Not Most Creative. Not Cutest.
But that was OK. I had made it all by myself and I liked it.
I remember the excitement that filled the room when we got to open our mailbox! What would we find? What about that special someone that sat in the row beside me? Would he give me a special card?
Would I get “X” and “O” and Hearts?
Or, horrors, would our valentine mailbox be empty?
As I got older, having or not having a boyfriend meant valentines or not. I tried not to get too depressed when I was “single.” No one to send flowers to me, or chocolates, or take me out to eat. Sometimes you just don’t “feel” loved.
As an adult, I do enjoy Valentine’s Day. Picking out something for my husband, the children and grandchildren is fun.
No matter what we may “feel,” the Bible tells us we are loved!
Incredibly loved: John 3:16: ”For God so loved the world, He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.”
God loves us so much He was willing for Jesus Christ to be our sacrifice to die on the cross in a horrible death, rise again and provide forgiveness for our sins. Now, if we accept Him as our Lord and Savior and repent, we are saved and have a personal relationship with Him. He loves us. We will join Him one day in heaven.
God loves us so much! “For God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
God loves us so much! His love is dependable, unchanging, and eternal: “Help me, Lord my God; save me according to your unfailing love” (Psalms 109:26)
God loves us so much, nothing can get between us and His love. “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life; neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:37-39)
Valentine’s Day? Cards? Delicious chocolates oozing caramel? Dozens of red roses?
How about forgiveness of sins and eternal life?
