Warm greetings to all. We hope you are having a good week and you enjoyed the first days of the new year.
We started the year in the fast lane and hope to at least keep up. It may be a bit of superstition showing up in me. Not sure how much attention was given to the first 12 days of January, but we’re all blessed to get started.
We are thinking of those who may be experiencing some difficult decisions or feeling some maladies at this time. Know that God and others care. You are not alone in your daily toils. Sometimes we need help and again we can help. Blessings either way.
One of my best steals and deals from last year was at the dollar store. White dishware is always my choice of tableware color. The set of dinnerware we have used for the last several years is a solid white set. The dishes are square and we had grown tired of using these and wanted to change. I simply made the purchase for the color and price only.
It’s not necessary to spend a lot on dishes just because of want and not need. I found just the right ones at the dollar store, one dollar a plate! These plates are shaped round and microwaveable. You will need a mitt to remove from the oven because the plate will get hot (it says on the back of the plate). The plates look elegant and no one would guess they were inexpensive!
I like white plates because it makes an attractive table setting, allowing everything to match. White plates have a tendency to let you put less food on your plate. The color of the food seems more vibrant and more appealing.
Notice that most restaurants use white plates as it gives a clean attractiveness to up your appetite. The food and textures stand out and tend to enhance the flavor, particularly sweet flavors. Have you ever said, “I hope this tastes as good as it looks?”
Try eating from a white plate and see what you think. It doesn’t matter how expensive a table covering is — It doesn’t have to be expensive to be pretty — your white plate will overdo any background and become the center of attention and conversation!
I have white, color and printed china but will always prefer the white. What was your best deal and steal last year?
Monday, Jan. 17, is a federal holiday, honoring the achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, a Baptist minister and civil rights leader who advocated for nonviolent resistance against racial segregation.
President Reagan signed a bill proposed by Rep. Katie Hall to create a federal holiday honoring King on Nov. 2, 1983. (By the way, I knew Katie Green-Hall; she graduated from MVSU one year ahead of me.) This holiday was observed for the first time on Jan. 20, 1986. Each year, the third Monday in January is observed for MLK Jr. Day, it being nearest to his birthday on Jan. 15, to follow guidelines of the Uniform Monday Holiday Act.
Martin Luther King, Jr. (Jan. 15, 1929-April 4, 1968) would have been 93 years old.
Don’t forget this day is known as a day of service. Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, “What are you doing for others?”
Enjoy life today. Be blessed.
