Choose your words carefully
Words are so powerful and important; we are told that every idle or careless word spoken will be taken into account and lay at the feet of the speaker on the day of judgement. Words uttered to others can lift a person’s spirit or be used as a weapon to destroy the recipient of those words.
It is important that Christians be mindful of the words we use so that the Holy work of God is not hindered. It is therefore prudent to use (apply) the Word of God in every area of life because God’s words are powerful, and God’s words are tools for believers.
Looking at Isaiah 55:10-11, we see the Lord using the water cycle going out doing a work and returning to heaven to illustrate the principle of His word: “For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it brings forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater. So shall my word be that goeth forth out forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I have sent it.”
Rain and snow come down from heaven, and do not return before serving God’s purpose on earth. So as the rain fulfills the will of God, the Word of God always fulfills God’s purpose on earth.
Christians can be encouraged to be faithful in the use of God’s Word because:
1. The Word of God, when spoken from the mouth of believers, no matter their maturity, becomes a tool that supplies nourishment for hungry souls. It turns what is barren into a rich fertile plain that bears much fruit.
2. So powerful is the Word of God it is a two-fold blessing. It is a seed to those who sow and bread to the eater. Sometimes the Sower and the eater are the same person.
3. The application of God’s Word produces results and there is reason and rationale to God’s Word. Christians should first speak the Word of God over our lives.
A. I shall walk in humility in the presence of God. (Proverbs 22 promises riches and honor in life)
B. I shall choose pleasant, positive people as my friends. (Proverbs 22 says stay away from angry men or furious men lest thou learn his ways.)
C. I shall exercise the gift which God has given me. (Proverbs 18:16 says, “A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.)
D. I will teach young people to Honor God. I will be a better ambassador. (Proverbs 22:6: “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.)
Psalm 92:13-14: “Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. (The Gift that keeps on giving!) They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing.”
