Whew! Have we been busy in the CARE building over the past few weeks! Too busy to take a breath, sit down and put all the fun things that are happening on paper.
Our annual Student Art Show and Reception once again did not disappoint as young artists in the community displayed their talents. Students from 5 to 18 shared their work in various art forms and were rewarded with certificates, ribbons and prize money.
Many of these same students continue to attend our After School programs in art, dance and martial arts each Tuesday and Thursday afternoon.
We did not leave the adults out of the fun, as our morning paint classes and ladies’ paint nights have hummed right along this spring, filled with good food and lots of laughs.
And then, there was our first “Mommy and Me” paint class. Watching these children paint with their mothers and grandmothers was a beautiful lesson in compassion and love. The food, door prizes and “extra-special” components that CARE provided that night did not compare to the love shown between these mothers and their children and grandchildren.
While the downstairs was filled with painting activities, the repair of the third floor of the CARE building was well underway. The old plaster walls have been removed. Framing has been completed so that the drywall can be installed. The repairs are on track to be completed before our summer camps begin in June.
And then there are those two little words “Summer Camp!” CARE continues to add more and more summer camp opportunities for members of the community who are young and young-at-heart. We will begin camp in June this year in order to accommodate all of the classes and workshops that we have planned. Registration will open mid-May and will continue until all sessions are filled.
In closing, we ask you to join us on Friday, May 10, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., for our silent auction, bake sale and lunch sale to benefit the McFerrin family. The McFerrin family has been an integral part of CARE for so many years. Clay, Krista, Brandon, Kelsey and Ryan have done many wonderful things for our organization. And, to continue their dedication to CARE, Harper and Beckett, Kelsey and Ryan’s children, attend all of our after school classes and were award winning artists in our recent Student Art Show.
Again, whew! As you can see, we have been very busy in our little CARE building over the past few months. Stop by and see all the many wonderful things that continue to happen at CARE. See you at CARE in 2024!
