Are you ready for Gateway 2024?
Our annual Gateway to the Delta Festival is less than two months away and will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12. Our Gateway planning team is ready and has been working since February on all those details that make the Gateway to the Delta Festival wonderful for our community. We plan to have all of your usual favorites and a few surprises, as well, to provide a day that is packed with great food, lots of arts and crafts and toe-tapping music from the morning into the night.
Vendor applications for arts/crafts and food trucks continue to pour into CARE for the festival. Our amazing music lineup is finalized, and Mayor Smith is working to locate the best possible entries for our annual car show.
Additions to Gateway this year include a photography contest and Smoochin’ Scissors contest. More details will be provided in upcoming weeks on these two events.
Pam Locke, a graphic artist and watercolorist from Oxford, is creating our artwork for the Gateway to the Delta signature T-shirt and poster. Our Gateway team started with numerous design and color choices for the Gateway 2024 shirts and has narrowed it down to the perfect design and color choice that is sure to please all festivalgoers.
Now, don’t think for one minute that we did not remember to focus on our little Gateway attendees. Our KidsZone will be open and filled with many fun things to keep those little ones busy. A petting zoo, inflatables, games and a few other surprises await them in this corner of the festival grounds.
Tiny Miss Gateway, Little Miss Gateway and Little Mr. Gateway candidates will take to the stage as the festival opens to crown our trio of royalty. Have those cameras ready to snap lots of pictures, because we know that these children are “hams” in front of the camera lens!
Each year during the Gateway Festival, CARE takes pride in celebrating and thanking members of the Charleston community who have gone above and beyond to support CARE and volunteer in Tallahatchie County. We will honor our Hometown Hero, Volunteer of the Year and extend the CAREing Heart award that afternoon. It is always one of our favorite moments of the day, because of this simple “thank you” from CARE and the community.
Whew! And, that is just the beginning of all of the wonderful things that we have planned for this year’s Gateway to the Delta Festival. Join us on Saturday, Oct. 12, for a wonderful, family-friendly day around the Charleston Court Square.
See you at CARE (and at Gateway!) in 2024!
