At ECF, our Christmas may remain restricted, but our spirit is not. Nurses’ aides have decorated their units with care and stockings are hung everywhere. Activity people have been working on Christmas crafts with our residents and, as we always find, our residents are talented and creative.
We have received a lot of Christmas trees from The Flower Basket that friends and family have sent to their loved ones. The talented staff there are making sure that every resident gets a Christmas tree. If you want to send Christmas spirit to the residents at ECF and you don’t know anyone here, just call The Flower Basket and they will make sure that every resident at our facility has Christmas cheer in their rooms.
As you can see at top right, Gene McFerrin’s hands are filled with Christmas cards that are arriving daily for our residents from family and friends. They come from all over this nation and are sent by people who haven’t forgotten that joy can be given to a person with something as simple as a Christmas card.
Our therapy department decorated their halls and walls with festive items. Our residents receive so much help from these talented people. We have many residents who have not walked in a very long time making great strides in taking steps for over 6 feet. It sounds like a small task to those of us who can walk easily, but it is a remarkable accomplishment for a resident who hasn’t walked in a very long time. They work on strength; the reduction of pain; transferring, which improves the chance of more independence; and alertness to detail, which contributes to their overall wellness.
We had a scare this weekend of a possible positive COVID case, but God is not going to let us miss our Christmas celebration. I am counting on Him and further testing proved me right.
You may not be at our Christmas party as you have been, but we will not forget that you want to be here. May your Christmas be bright and may all your Christmases be filled with joy.
