Lots has been happening at ECF and much of it has brought lots of smiles and holiday cheer. Our nurses and ward clerks have been busy making our nursing home resemble our homes at Christmastime.
Recently, we told you about the residents’ attraction to the Penny Auction activity. The pictures at right show you how serious they are about bidding and the excitement their faces show when they are able to win their bid.
We are very safe with all the new systems that were installed after the lightning strike our building sustained. We are grateful for all the systems, but improvements and ingenuity have halted our hallway aromatherapy program, which is called “Popcorn.” So, as always, we had to find an alternative place to pop our popcorn and a quick way to distribute our delicious, buttery treat. You’ll see a picture here where we popped our popcorn. Gene McFerrin, Dodie Palmer and Donna Sumner race in and out to make sure all residents and workers get their Wednesday treat. After setting off the fire alarm twice, we had to back up and find another way.
Recently, the local flower shop began delivering decorated small Christmas trees that are being purchased by families and friends. On Friday afternoon after the day was over, it was my privilege to deliver these holiday gifts, read the cards, and light them up for the residents who have received them. It is our understanding that you can send one of these lovely Christmas trees by calling and placing an order for one at the Flower Basket, here in Charleston. If you don’t have family or friends at ECF but you would like to make sure all residents get a Christmas tree, then place an order. We will make sure all residents receive one. A picture here shows you the first delivery.
Arts and crafts have become an activity that residents on A Wing are really enjoying, no matter whether they need help to make their craft or can complete it independently. The photo at bottom right shows the sense of accomplishment a resident feels as she completes her falling leaf tree.
Christmas parties will be Dec. 17 on B Wing and Dec. 24 on A Wing. Although we can’t have community attend, we know that you will be with us in spirit.
We want to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
