What is 4-H?
4-H is best identified by its green four-leaf clover with an H on each leaf. The four H’s on this emblem stand for Head, Heart, Hands and Health.
These words emphasize the basis of the four-fold development of young people involved in 4-H.
» Head: 4-H’ers focus on thinking, making decisions and understanding and gaining knowledge.
» Heart: 4-H’ers are concerned with the welfare of others and accept the responsibilities of citizenship and developing attitudes and values.
» Hands: 4-H’ers use their hands to learn new skills and develop pride and respect for their own work.
» Health: 4-H’ers develop and practice healthy living physically, mentally, spiritually and socially.
Our slogan is “Learn by doing.” We are America's largest youth development organization, empowering nearly 6 million young people with skills to lead for a lifetime.
Did you know that we have a 4-H program here in Tallahatchie County? Our program is based out of the Extension office in Charleston.
We have traditional 4-H programs such as livestock, horse and shooting sports. But we have so much more to offer: Clubs such as Lego building, robotics, kayaking, fishing, sewing, gardening, cooking and more.
We also have great leadership opportunities through 4-H, such as the ambassador program, which looks great on college or job applications.
We have so many ideas and aspirations for the youth of Tallahatchie County. What we need is volunteers to help us make them happen!
If you have a passion for any of the club topics listed above or if you simply have a passion for giving youth opportunities to excel, please consider volunteering with us.
If you have youth interested in any of the clubs or programs listed above, consider enrolling them in 4-H!
Call our office at 662-647-8746 or come by in person at 202 S. Market St. We would love to meet you and help start your journey with 4-H!
