Nomination forms for the Tallahatchie County Farm Service Agency County Committee can currently be obtained from the Tallahatchie FSA office located at 360 W. Cypress St. in Charleston.
Completed nomination forms are due back to the FSA office by Aug, 1, 2023. This year’s election is for Local Administrative Area 1, which is the hill area of Tallahatchie County. Derek Beardain currently serves as the committee member from this area. Any interested producer, landowner, or FSA participant who is a voter in LAA 1 is eligible to serve if they meet all eligibility requirements.
Derek has served three, 3-year terms on the Tallahatchie County Committee, for the last seven years as chairperson of the committee. FSA Committee term limits require Derek to step down after this year, and he is no longer eligible to be nominated for the committee election.
FSA county committees make decisions on things like commodity price support loans and payments; establishment of bases, yields, commodity loans; conservation programs; livestock assistance and ad hoc disaster payments when authorized by legislation.
Sign-up for the 2023 ARC/PLC program has ended, but time remains to revise the 2023 ARC/PLC contract for participants with a successor contract if the farm has changed hands this year.
Also, late-filed ARC/PLC enrollments may be possible for those that missed the March 16, 2023, deadline. However, Sept. 30 is the absolute final date to change a contract or to late file a 2023 contract.
July 17, 2023 was the final date to file a 2023 acreage report certifying all crops and land uses for all cropland on a farm. 2023 acreage reports can still be late-filed but a fee must be paid to cover the cost of a farm visit to verify the report. The evidence of the crop must still be in each field so now is the time to do it if you failed to report by the deadline.
