I surely do love this weather we have been having here in Mississippi over the past few days. Then, of course, we were blessed with post winter weather with the temps dropping down into the forties and fifties one more time. But it seems like during the afternoons it is pleasant enough that no coats are needed.
Sunday was typical here at the Circle S. Some of my grandchildren and a few inherited over time were here to meander and roam the back woods and find all the mudholes that the recent rain had filled to the brim. As I sat on my porch and watched the shenanigans from across the road, I don’t think there was a hole, holler or water puddle that they missed.
I came back inside after a while and about 30 minutes later my 16-year-old grandson walked in the back door carrying wet, muddy clothes and wearing only his boxers!
I usually keep extra clothes for our little 3-year-old, but not for the big boys. He said, “Meme, do you have a shirt I could borrow?” Here is this big gym-going, weightlifting, muscle-bound boy asking his Meme for a shirt. I told him sure, I had some ‘”girl shirts” if he would like to wear one of them.
As he rode back into the woods on a massive machine, he was dressed in a pretty red tunic. He’s one of the boys who can take a razzing and just laugh at himself and carry on. And his attitude certainly paid off yesterday. He said our bulls followed him. They love red, you know.
All of our grandsons love to ride four-wheelers, and some have ridden in a water sports arena where you drive off into the deep water of a creek and ride the waves and rocks to the other side. These engines are fitted with a special muffler/spout of sorts to throw the water out the top and it never hurts the engine. I have watched in panic as they ride off into the muddy waters of the ponds here on our ranch, holding my breath until the big water-spouting four-wheeler climbs out on the other side.
As for me, I will climb into our “Big Red,” a side -by-side, and follow the thrill-seeking boys and endure the thrill of the ride!
