The Tallahatchie community is always providing assistance to the Extended Care Facility in a wide variety of ways. We are always appreciative of your support.
Then there is a special event that happens, making all of us know that there are people in this world who care about others more than they care about themselves. We experienced one of those days last week.
There is no greater fan of the Charleston High School Tigers than Benny Cole, who resides at ECF. Benny’s birthday was Oct. 20.
It was a day like all others, until a big yellow bus pulled up in our parking lot and a large group of athletes piled out, bringing shouts, smiles and gifts to their number one fan, Benny Cole.
Coach LaDon Taylor had the guys ready and excited about visiting Benny on his birthday, but no one was more excited than Benny himself. The photos you are looking at pair Benny with the great linemen, running backs, wide receivers, safeties and the kicker of the Tigers.
Coach Taylor stood by Benny, surrounded by his team, and you could see the unity of the young men off the field that must surely have supported them on the field as they played Madison Palmer High School last week and defeated them handily, 42-0. I can only think they played their hearts out for their school and their biggest fan.
There are times in one’s life when you get to view something larger than yourself. You get to forget what is going wrong in your day or in your life as you watch the joy on a man’s face who loves the game of football even though he has never played a down. These young men are being led by a coach who recognizes the need of young people to learn that life lesson.
Among our staff, there were few dry eyes, lots of laughter, and the opportunity to see a day when the best of people shone through.
Happy birthday, Benny Cole! Congratulations, Charleston Tigers! And thank you, Coach LaDon Taylor, for your leadership of these young people.
We won’t forget this day!
