County committee members will provide input and make important decisions on the local administration of USDA farm programs under any future farm legislation.
I particularly encourage minority and women producers to get involved so that county committees fairly represent the producers of the county.
Nominations for the county committee election were submitted by eligible voters before the deadline in August and the nominees that have been determined eligible to serve are as follows: John Chamblis, Macie P. Flautt and Larry Heard. These are the nominees for this year in Local Administrative Area 2, which includes all the West Delta Area in the county (communities are Webb, Tutwiler, Sumner, Swan Lake, Glendora, Philipp and Sharkey).
Maci P. Flautt from Sumner is a corn, cotton, wheat and soybean producer. She has served on the Tallahatchie County FSA committee for six years (two terms).
John Chamblis is a corn, wheat, rice and soybean producer from west of Webb. He has served as an alternate to Maci Flautt’s position on the Tallahatchie County FSA committee for three years.
Larry Heard from Webb is a cotton, corn and soybean producer who has also worked in a rice farming operation and has served as an alternate to the county committee for three years.
2021 Tallahatchie FSA county committee election ballots were mailed to all eligible voters last week. If you are a farmer, rancher or a landowner, or if you participate in FSA programs on a farm located in the West Delta Area of Tallahatchie County, you should have received a ballot.
If you think you are eligible to vote in this election, in the area described, and have not received a ballot by Nov. 20, contact the Tallahatchie County FSA office before the Dec. 6 deadline. The newly elected member and alternate will take office on Jan. 1, 2022, and begin serving a three-year term.
For more information about the FSA Committee election, contact the Farm Service Agency located in the USDA Service Center at 360 West Cypress St., Charleston, phone 662-647-8857, ext. 2.
Most of all, please remember to vote for the candidate of your choice and return your ballot to FSA by Dec. 6, 2021.
