I am the first to admit I am a sucker for a cute baby. I just love them ... so cute, fresh and cuddly.
I’m reminded this time of year, especially, not to touch the babies. It’s flu season — and, of course, it has been COVID season for well over a year now. We are living in different and scary times and we have to do everything we can to be cautious, which includes keeping our hands off the newbies.
As a grandmother of three precious little ones, I can tell you that it’s so hard not to hold them, squeeze them and kiss all over them at every opportunity, but I try to refrain when I am showing symptoms of sickness.
Our littlest one has just gotten over several days of illness and running fever, as did his mom who, no doubt, got it from him. Thankfully, the older two avoided it.
I got a visit Tuesday morning from City Clerk Ana Ealy, who brought her little one with her. He was born prematurely and is now 6 months old, but is still tiny, weighing in at only 14 pounds. I tell you, that Noah is precious and it was tough keeping my distance, but having a little cold myself, I didn’t want to risk giving him anything.
Just a reminder (and teach your children this), don’t touch babies’ hands, because their hands go in their mouths; and I always caution not to touch their bare feet either. Result is the same.
On another note, trick-or-treat season is approaching. Use caution. Take your children to the city’s trunk or treat — a safe venue — or take them to homes you know. Make sure masks don’t block their vision. Check their candy. My rule is no hard candy or suckers for the little ones because of choking hazard. Have fun and stay safe.
