David went to the little store on the highway up from our house last Tuesday morning to get us a bacon and biscuit. One of the girls working there told him about a friend of ours, Ilene Dees, dying from COVID. It really hit home. Ilene and I were friends for a long time and worked together for years. She had three sons who adored her and would do anything for her.
In a little over a year, all three sons and Ilene have left their earthly home and made their home in heaven. They are well and happy and are suffering no more. Ilene and I were talking on the phone a couple months ago and she said, “If these folks don’t quit dying, we aren’t going to have anybody left to go to our funeral when we die.” I’m going to miss you, sweet friend, but I know you are in a far better place than I am. I love you and am going to miss our phone calls!
Happy 66th anniversary to my sweet sister and brother-in-love, Tommy and Ann Hudson of Grenada, who celebrated Saturday, Sept. 25.
Wanda Crawford and Shelia Jackson went to Enid Catfish Hut after church Sunday to eat lunch and then they went to Bobbie Kennedy’s and saw Andrew, Chelsey and Rye Gazaway. After leaving there, they stopped by a minute to see Robbie Griffin. While out and about they saw Cotton and Debra Sanders, Festus, Ruth Jane and Amanda Hailey.
Debbie McCool said she and Tommy worked in their yard all weekend and it really looks nice. They could win “Yard of the Month” if we had it here in our little community. The grand girls stayed with them again this weekend and they took them out to eat Friday and Saturday night!
JR Dukes is scheduled to have his last surgery on his leg Monday morning. Good luck and a speedy recovery, neighbor.
Get well wishes to Madeline Holliday, who had surgery Monday morning to remove a bone spur on her left knee.
Belated happy birthday to Joy Mullen, who celebrated the 23rd, and to Bobby Joe McClanaham, who celebrated the 27th. October birthdays start off with Jessie Williams and Lynn Marcelinho on the 1st, JL Crawford on the 2nd, Kim Beavers on the 4th, Laura Moorman on the 5th, Jason Pettit on the 6th; and my great-nephew, Taylor Hames, who celebrates the 7th. I pray you all have a great birthday.
Waylon and Holly Dukes, and daughter Haven Rose and JR Dukes, went to Tupelo to look at boats and Waylon bought a hunting blind. They had a good time.
Visiting Jessie Williams over the weekend were her daughters, Julia Kerr and Sandra McCulla, both of Grenada.
Recipe for the week: Sweet Biscuits
2 or 3 cups of self-rising flour
3 tablespoons sugar
1 package yeast dissolved in 1/4 cup warm water
1/4 cup vegetable oil
Milk
Mix all ingredients and add enough milk for dough consistency. Knead and cut out biscuits. Bake as regular biscuits.
