I hope all of you readers had a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving. We have so many wonderful blessings to be thankful for, and if you are down and out and think you don’t, remember you have the greatest blessing of all: You are a child of God and He loves you!
Our visitors last week were A.W. Taylor, who dropped by Sunday, and David visited with him. I hate I missed visiting, but I was napping. I miss out on a lot of visitors and phone calls by napping. I’m at the age now where it’s not a choice; you either take a nap or fall flat on your face! Other visitors were our son, Logan Deck, and our grandson, Mills, from Madison; Brad, Frankie, our granddaughter and our great-grandson Bradley Holliday and daughter, Donna Garripoli, of Grenada. Also visiting us Thanksgiving Day were Roy and Joan McCain of Drew. They were on their way home from Oxford after having Thanksgiving dinner with their son, Cliff and Laura McCain.
Saturday, Donna’s birthday, she and Frankie came and ate leftovers with us and caramel birthday cake that Frankie brought up for her mother’s birthday. After singing the “Happy Birthday” song and eating cake, the girls and I headed to Southaven shopping. Thank goodness for riding carts in the stores. After a delicious steak supper in Southaven, we headed back to Tillatoba full and tired!
Sadie and Milton Harper and daughter Sheila O’Bryant, their son Mit and wife Deanna Harper and her son, Tom, and seven of Sheila’s grandchildren and her future grandson-in-law visited with them last week.
Tommy and Deborah McCool had Thanksgiving at the home of her dad, Ray Bell. They got to see her nephew, Michael Merrill, who was home for a month. He is working a civilian job over in another country. Deborah couldn’t remember which country. Michael will go back next week so he can be there by the 3rd. His son, Nicholas, is getting married that day. Congratulations to Nicholas and his new bride!
Sheila Jackson and Mali Jarrell had Thanksgiving dinner with Sheila’s niece, Robbie Griffin, in Teasdale.
Mark and Faye Hartley and Kristie had Thanksgiving dinner at their house last Sunday. Kristie helped her mother cook a delicious dinner. Their son, Nathan and Betsy Hartley and children Rowland, Mary Brett and Mclendon enjoyed the meal with them.
Eugene, Peggy and Erik Bailey had Thanksgiving dinner with their son, Jeff and Margo Bailey and family at Pope. Peggy said all of her kids and family were there also. I know they had a wonderful time. Peggy said she didn’t have to cook a thing. They told her to bring cranberry sauce, so she took plenty of it.
Happy birthday to Deborah McCool and to her granddaughter, Caitlyn Beavers, on Dec. 1; to Darlene Moorman on the 2nd; to Stephanie Ruis Holliday on the 3rd; to Keith Venable on the 5th; to Maci McLendon and Cody McLendon, who share a birthday on the 6th; to Jimbo Whitaker on the 7th; and to Freda Weir, R.P. Newman and Tara Rotenberry, who share a birthday on the 9th.
The following recipe for “Lazy Cherry Cake” came from the Elvis Presley family cookbook.
1 egg
1 cup sugar
1/3 cup margarine
1 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 can cherry pie filling
1/2 cup chopped nuts
Beat egg, sugar, butter, flour, salt and baking powder together. Stir ingredients well and add flavoring. Fold in cherry pie filling and chopped nuts. Pour into greased and floured cake pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
