Tallahatchie County’s public libraries in Charleston and Tutwiler are open for business on a regular operating schedule, local library officials noted in a statement submitted to The Sun-Sentinel on Monday.
“The Tallahatchie County Library System did not close. ... Due to the heroic efforts of the new Board of Library Trustees, the Tallahatchie County Board of Supervisors, the Mississippi Library Commission and the many concerned citizens too numerous to mention, the library has new hours, new employees and a new interim director, Roshella Cole,” noted the statement, which was hand-delivered by Cole herself.
Cole, it was explained, operated the Tutwiler branch of the county library system for many years and “hopes to work with the community to better serve them in education and employment opportunities through the library.”
The libraries, now boasting a “growing DVD selection and faster Wi-Fi,” according to the release, invite the public to “come visit.”
The Charleston library is open each Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 12-5 p.m.
The Tutwiler library is open Monday through Friday from 3-7 p.m.
The county’s public library system had been scheduled to close indefinitely on May 31 due to an anticipated budget shortfall.
Residents and officials rallied around the libraries and halted the closure plan.
